Local farmer snaps up Offaly land close to Birr and Roscrea
A 35ac non-residential site near Kinnity, Co Offaly, sold to a local farmer last week for €245,000, or €7,000/ac.
The land, which is in two divisions and all in permanent pasture, is located around 3.8km from the village of Kinnity, 12km from Birr and 18km from Roscrea.
About 20 people turned up for the auction, and Kildare estate agent Paddy Jordan had two active bidders for the property.
Staying in the midlands, a 71ac residential farm at Killermogh, Ballacolla, Co Laois, was withdrawn from auction recently and sold later for a price in excess of the highest bid of €700,000.
The purchaser, a local farmer, is believed to have paid in the region of €10,000/ac for the property.
Located one mile from Ballacolla village and six miles from Abbeyleix, the holding was described by auctioneer Joseph Coogan as top quality agricultural ground with a mix of tillage and pasture.
The property includes a four bedroom bungalow residence with ample front and back garden space and a traditional farmyard consisting of a round roof shed with lean-to and old stone buildings.
The farm was originally guided at €850,000.
