Local digs deep for stud
An adjoining landowner paid €2.9m last week for a 160ac residential stud farm in Co Wicklow.
The property at Killoughter, Ashford, included 70 boxes, two automatic walkers, a spa, lunging ring and four-furlong gallop.
The farm was established by Chester Beatty in the 1950s and was used for the pre-sales preparation of horses, pre-training, breeze ups and foaling. The farm has bred or raised many important winners on the Flat, both at home and abroad.
The farm is ideally located, close to Ashford, Greystones, Newcastle and Wicklow town. It is within easy access of the M11 and is 25 miles from Dublin.
Newbridge auctioneer Paddy Jordan had a packed auction room for the sale and three bidders competed from the off.
Mr Jordan had been quoting €2.5m for the entire prior to auction, so it was little wonder he was a happy man.
"I was delighted with the result for both the vendor and purchaser," he said.
