Letterkenny Institute of Technology will have a number of new agriculture and food-related courses coming on stream in September 2013.
Dr Gertie Taggart, head of the School of Science at Letterkenny, said the level 7 Food Science and Nutrition programme has been running at the college since the early 1990s, with the option of a one-year add-on level 8 programme.
Entry points to this programme have increased in the past couple of years and are now sitting at 225.
However the college will be introducing a level 8 Food Science with Business Management programme in September 2013.
As Letterkenny has both a food science course and a veterinary nursing programme, it has also just developed a two-year level 6 Higher Certificate in Applied Agriculture that offers the best of both worlds.
The new course encompasses aspects of veterinary nursing, food science and engineering.
This course will be offered on CAO for entry in 2013.
Among the other courses on offer at Letterkenny is the level 7 Veterinary Nursing programme.
First offered in 2008, the minimum points required for this course in 2011 was 365 and this rose to 380 in 2012.
