Laois 70ac lot landed for €745k

A 70ac parcel of grazing land at Graigueadrisley, Rathdowney, Co Laois, sold at auction for €745,000, or more than €10,500/ac.

Located five miles from the town of Rathdowney, the lands are described by auctioneer William Mansfield as superb ground in an excellent state of fertility. The lands, which are under permanent pasture, are renowned locally as great fattening land but also suitable for tillage.

A great crowd showed up at the Manor Hotel, Abbeyleix, for the auction and Mr Mansfield opened proceedings at €400,000.

The two strongest bidders in the field, an English lady and a local businessman, were still in contention when the property went on the market at €700,000. It was eventually bought by the English lady for €745,000.
