Kildare 68ac perfect for all farming types

A n executor's sale of 68ac of agricultural land in south Co Kildare by public auction could have far reaching appeal, the selling agents predict.

Situated just outside the village of Castledermot, the holding at Plunketstown Upper and Lower will be offered in lots at Kilkea Castle on June 29.

Auctioneer Michael Lyng, who is handling the sale, said the farm's location and quality should attract a lot of interest -- and not just from the immediate area.

The land has been in grass for the past few years but, according to the auctioneer, it is also suitable for tillage.

"We're hoping this sale will attract bidders from everywhere," Mr Lyng said.

"It is an ideal location for anyone looking for a nice piece of land or for anyone looking to extend an existing farm.

"It is in walking distance of Castledermot village, seven miles from Carlow town and two miles from the M9 motorway, and is also within easy reach of The Curragh and Punchestown racecourses."

The farm will be offered in four lots. Lot one comprises the house, yard and 9.5ac. Lot two extends to 14.48ac and lot three is the remaining 44.48ac. Lot four is the entire.

Mr Lyng is quoting a guide price of €8,000-10,000/ac, which he feels is achievable given the quality of the land and its location.

At present, the land is in grass in three divisions but it is suitable for any type of farming, he suggests. It has a good water supply and all fields come with road frontage.

The house included in the sale is in need of complete refurbishment, however, but there is ample room to renovate or extend it.

Accommodation includes two bedrooms, a kitchen, a sitting room and a bathroom. The house has oil-fired central heating.
