John Deere flexes muscles with several new machine launches

John Deere has just launched a glut of new products, including tractors, combines, balers and mowers. This sort of launch usually takes place every two years as the company attempts to flex its muscle before the upcoming biennial Agritechnica Show in November.

The most relevant Irish news emanating from the Berlin launch is that Deere is to introduce three new more compact models to both the 6M and 6R Series tractor ranges. Built in Mannheim, the new 6MC and 6RC tractors have been designed specifically for medium sized arable, livestock and mixed farms, and are therefore set to do well on the Irish market.

So what features does the 'compact' treatment confer? Let's start by looking at the 6MC series because it is this range (which is lower spec than the equivalent 6RC models) that will probably sell better on Irish farms.

The new 6090MC, 6100MC and 6110MC models are equipped with PowrQuad Plus transmissions and Stage III B compliant 4.5-litre four-cylinder Power Tech engines. These tractors use diesel-only engines that, in order to meet emissions standards, feature exhaust gas recirculation, a variable geometry turbocharger and an exhaust filter. This last component includes a diesel oxidation catalyst and a diesel particulate filter.

The 6MC tractors feature a 2.4m wheelbase for stability and versatility, while an optional low profile cab allows easy access to small buildings. The durable full frame is specifically designed to accept front loaders such as the John Deere H310 or H340.

These are available in non self-levelling, mechanical self-levelling and hydraulic self-levelling versions, with a wide variety of loader attachments.

With up to four mechanical spool valves, the closed-centre pressure and flow compensated hydraulic system provides quick response times and a lift capacity of up to 5,600kg. It is available with either a 65 or 80 litre per minute capacity pump. These tractors also feature a 540/540E/1000rpm PTO and a comfortable cab with 320 degree visibility and low noise levels.

Moving up the spec scale a little, Deere's 6090RC, 6100RC and 6110RC tractors represent the premium version of this new line of more compact tractors. Supplied by a 205-litre fuel tank, these John Deere Power Tech PWX 4.5-litre Stage III B diesel-only engines are also equipped with Intelligent Power Management.

Deere claims operator comfort is enhanced by the 2.4m wheelbase and triple link suspension front axle, while tyre sizes of up to 600/65R38 help apply the available power to the ground. The three powershift transmission choices, Power Quad Plus, Auto Quad Plus and Auto Quad Plus Eco-shift, provide smooth gear changes on the move, assisted by a standard de-clutch button. With the newly available Eco-shift mode engine, rpm is automatically reduced when reaching high speeds.

Other features on the 6RC models include a pressure and flow compensated hydraulic system providing up to 114 litres per minute, with 37 litres per minute available for implement operation.

An ex-factory front PTO and front hitch with a lift capacity of 3,000kg is an added option. John Deere's new 6RC and 6MC Series tractors will be available from November.
