Irish sought by Canadian firms
Some of Canada's top companies from the agricultural sector are to return to Ireland to recruit workers with agricultural backgrounds interested in emigrating to Canada.
Last March the positions were primarily in the province of Saskatchewan, which recruited up to 290 Irish individuals. Now the province of Manitoba is to follow suit.
Manitoba is primarily bringing agri-business companies including Meridian Industries, Behlen Industries and Ag Shield Manufacturing, all of which manufacture farm equipment and storage facilities.
Canadian food giant Maple Leaf Foods is also to return looking to recruit for its agri-farm and food production business.
Manitoba is one of Canada's prairie states and is bordered by Ontario to the east and Saskatchewan to the west.
Half of the state's 1.2 million people live in Winnipeg but the economy is heavily reliant on agriculture. Beef production and cereals are among the main enterprises.
The Working Abroad Expo takes place on Saturday and Sunday in the RDS Industries Hall from 10am to 5pm.
