Industry challenges tackled at Teagasc event

Teagasc is hosting its annual conference in County Arms Hotel in Birr, Co Offaly, on Thursday, September 16.

The event, which is entitled, Challenges and Opportunities for Organic Producers, will be officially opened by Minister for State Mr Ciaran Cuffe and will focus on three main areas of concern to organic farmers:

1. Soil nutrition -- the challenge to get it right. This will feature presentations on nutrient budgeting and composting;

2. Market opportunities for organic produce, which will deal with both selling to a processor and case studies from people selling organic produce direct to consumers;

3. Adding value to organic produce will cover areas such as product development, brand development and funding a new enterprise.

Teagasc has compiled an interesting team of speakers and look forward to a lively debate on the future of the industry. The conference must be pre-booked and the closing date for bookings is Friday, September 10.

The conference fee is €60, which includes an organic lunch. Please contact Helen McNulty on 091 845 217 or email helen.mcnulty@ for bookings or further information.
