In brief: Connacht Gold lab wins award

Connacht Gold's milk testing laboratory at Ballaghadereen has been awarded international accreditation.

The state-of-the-art lab has received accreditation under the Campden Laboratories Accreditation Scheme, the leading independent accreditation for food-industry laboratories.

Connacht Gold chairman Padraig Gibbons said the accreditation was the gold standard for milk testing laboratories and was international confirmation of the co-op's commitment to its milk suppliers and consumers of the highest standards of quality and traceability from the farm gate to the kitchen table.

Connemara ready for pony festival

The annual Connemara Pony spring festival takes place this week and will culminate in the famous Connemara Pony Stallion Parade, which will take place at the showgrounds on Sunday.

The festival will open on Thursday evening with a photo exhibition at the Abbeyglen Castle Hotel at 8.30pm and will continue with inspections on Friday and training clinics given by well-known judge Philip Scott on Saturday.

IDB's UK manager moves to Milklink

The Irish Dairy Board's British manager, Carl Ravenhall, has been headhunted to take up a senior position with the UK's biggest dairy co-op, Milklink.

The 42-year-old held several senior positions with the IDB over the past 15 years, and he is expected to take up his new role in the summer on completion of his contractual obligations with the IDB's British-based company Adams Foods, where he is currently the managing director.

Milklink is Britain's largest cheese processor.
