IFA demand recall of the dairy forum

Agriculture Minister Simon Coveney has been urged to recall the dairy forum to plan a support strategy for farmers.

The IFA's Sean O'Leary said they have been asking co-ops to continue to hold prices but also help with budgeting and merchant credit assistance in the face of a difficult spring for cash flow.

He said the co-ops felt global prices may have "bottomed out" but it will take time for it to impact on farmers' milk prices. Mr O'Leary urged Mr Coveney to hold a meeting shortly and to ensure the forum survived this term of government.
