HSI course dates confirmed

HSI has announced its schedule of equestrian coaching courses for this year.

The HSI courses are competition-based coaching qualifications that use modern techniques to improve horse and rider performances.

Each course is led by professional equestrian tutors and accredited by Coaching Ireland.

The first step on the HSI coaching course ladder is Introduction to Coaching, a one-day course aimed at providing coaches, parents and young horse producers with the basic skills and techniques to coach at training level.

Candidates on this course must be 16 or over, have a basic knowledge of horses and horsemanship and possess any of the following qualifications: British Horse Society Stage I and II; Association of Irish Riding Clubs Grades I and II; Irish Pony Club C or FETAC Horsemanship Level 2.

Costing €80 per person, Introduction to Coaching courses will be run at:

- Gurteen College, Roscrea, Co Tipperary, on February 7;

- Cavan Equestrian Centre, Latt, Co Cavan, on February 13;

- The Paddocks Equestrian Centre, Midleton, Co Cork, on February 21.

The next step is the HSI Level 1 Apprentice Coach course, which covers the essential areas necessary to work competently as an apprentice coach at novice level.

Costing €400 per person, Level 1 Apprentice Coach courses will take place at:

- Cavan Equestrian Centre on April 17 and 18;

- The Paddocks Equestrian Centre, Midleton, Co Cork, on April 23 and 24;

- Spruce Lodge, Redcross, Co Wicklow, on April 30 and May 1.

The remaining days of last year's Level 1 courses will be held at Fernhill Sport Horse Centre, Kilkenny, on March 6 and 7, and at Laurel View EC, Templepatrick, Co Antrim, on April 2 and 3.

Finally, a Level 2 Coach course, costing €850 per person, will be run at Coilog Equestrian Centre, Kilmeague, Co Kildare, on March 19 (dressage), at Kill Equestrian Centre on March 20 (showjumping) and at Grange Farm, Kilcock, Co Kildare, on March 21 (eventing).
