HSI coaching courses for the summer and autumn

HORSE Sport Ireland (HSI) has announced its schedule of coaching courses for the summer and autumn.

HSI coaching courses are competition-based qualifications and are accredited by Coaching Ireland.

All courses are led by professional equestrian tutors and use modern techniques to improve both horses' and riders' performance.

The course focuses solely on coaching and you will not be required to ride at any stage.

HSI Introduction to Coaching

The Introduction to Coaching course is a one-day course and costs €80. The course is the first step on the HSI Equestrian Coaching ladder. The aim of the course is to provide coaches, parents and young horse producers with the basic techniques and skills to coach at training level.

HSI Level 1 Apprentice Coach

The HSI Level 1 Apprentice Coach course is a four-day course, the aim of which is to cover the essential areas necessary to work competently as an apprentice coach up to novice level.

The course is split into two parts, each lasting four days. The second part of the course is normally held three to four months after the first.

On the first two days, all of the exercises are explained and demonstrated.

The period in between days two and three allows coaches to work with the exercises at home and be comfortable with the modules before coming back to the course again.

The second part of the course offers coaches an opportunity to practise coaching under the guidance of the HSI tutor team and receive feedback on their techniques.

The overall aim of the course is to cover the essential areas necessary for all participants to work competently as an apprentice coach at novice level, with an emphasis on skill development, participation and enjoyment.

Dates and venues for the HSI Level 1 Apprentice Coach course are as follows:

• July 23 and 24 -- Coilog Equestrian Centre, Kilmeague, Co Kildare.
