Larry Goodman's ABP Foods Group is to close its Glasgow-based sausage facility in early 2013.
The Freshlink sausage production factory is to shut its doors with the loss of over 140 jobs.
The centre had been one of the leading frozen sausage suppliers in Britain.
ABP Foods said the decision to close was made as part of a restructuring of Freshlink's activities.
Following the plant's closure, sausage production will be shifted to ABP's Dalepak Foods facility in Yorkshire, England.
A Freshlink spokesman said the Glasgow employees would be offered assistance and support as they pursued alternative employment.
However he refused to comment on speculation the Glasgow factory was closed because it would require a significant investment in order to meet new European regulations on cold storage gas.
