Glin farm fails at auction

A 62.5ac farm overlooking the Shannon Estuary at Ballycullane, Glin, Co Limerick, failed to sell at auction at Kirby's Lanterns Hotel, Tarbert, Co Kerry, on Wednesday last.

Auctioneer Tom Stuart, of Sherry FitzGerald Stuart, Listowel, offered the farm for sale in two lots of 46.6ac and 15.9ac. Both lots had farmyard and cattle handling.

When a bid of €460,000 was sought to open the auction for the 46.6ac, there were no bids. The opening bid sought was reduced until proceedings opened at €400,000. Three bidders showed interest and after two bids of €10,000 and one of €5,000, bidding stopped at €425,000 and the property was withdrawn.

There were no bids on the second lot of 15.9ac.

"An offer on the smaller portion came in immediately after the auction," said auctioneer Tom Dillon.

"Given the level of interest, we are hopeful that the larger lot will sell soon."
