Garda horse needs name

Horse Sport Ireland and the Mounted Unit of An Garda Siochana are asking members of the public to name the unit's newest recruit, a magnificent four-year-old grey Irish Draught horse.

The gelding (left), by Rockrimmon Silver Diamond, out of Clogheen Cavehill Pride by Cork Arthur, was bred by Patrick Egan from Athlone, Co Roscommon and donated to the Garda Mounted Unit by Horse Sport Ireland.

All of the Garda horses' names are traditionally derived from Irish mythological folklore.

The person whose name is chosen will be invited to attend the official handover of the horse from Horse Sport Ireland to the Mounted Unit on June 23.

Email your suggested name for the horse to lskelton@horsesport ireland.ie before noon tomorrow to be in with a chance of winning.
