A substantial 113ac farm at Rathglass, New Inn in Co Galway is coming for auction with a guide price of €680,000 or €6,000/ac.

Located about 16km north of Loughrea and 16km west of Ballinasloe and Athenry the farm is all in one block and has no buildings aside from the ruins of an old manor house. According to Tuam auctioneer Martin Tyrell the holding is suitable in parts for grazing and tillage, while approximately 10ac is in young timber generating an annual premium of around €4,000/ac.

The farm was run as a unit by its most recent owner and Mr Tyrell describes it as one of the more substantial parcels of ground he has brought to market recently. At €6,000/ac he regards it as real value. "Rarely does a farm of that size come for auction in this region," he said, "I couldn't tell you when I last had a farm of that size for sale in this particular area."

The farm is all in one block with considerable road frontage on to two roads.

The auctioneer expects considerable local interest in the holding and believes it could make a substantial addition to a current enterprise but it also has the makings of a decent, stand-alone farm.

To be sold at auction on Friday, September 4 at the Maldron Hotel, Oranmore, Co Galway at 4pm.
