FTMTA Grass and Muck to attract 10,000 visitors

Almost 100 machinery exhibitors have booked their place at the FTMTA Grass and Muck event next month.

Taking place at Gurteen Agricultural College, close to Birr, Co Offaly, this event is set to become Ireland's machinery Mecca on Thursday, May 17.

Excellent growing conditions recently mean the site is taking shape with well-established strong grass swards.

The site is being monitored closely by Wray Platt, Gurteen Agriculture College's farm manager, and his team.

Visitors on the day will have lots of demonstrations to take in, with plots for reseeding, silage harvesting, pit silage, slurry spreading and farmyard manure spreading areas. Many trade stands will also be on show.

This year's event follows on from the success of the FTMTA Grass show in 2010, the first national grassland technology demonstration event in Ireland.

Visitor numbers for that first event were far in excess of those expected, as up to 10,000 paying customers turned out, so expect at least that many to head to Birr.
