John O’Reilly has spent 30 years making a living out of forestry but doesn’t just see timber as a commodity. He has always been a big nature lover. “That would have been my primary driver on day one,” he says of his career choice. “I’d have been a mouth open, David Attenborough watcher on telly all the time, always was.”
When Declan de Lacy was appointed as liquidator of a company set up to sell forests in Ireland to investors he had no idea that his efforts to recoup their funds would send him on a complex money trail across Europe and the United Arab Emirates.
“Trees were once an integral part of Inishowen's heritage. Restoring some measure of the biodiversity and scenic value of woodland to promote the peninsula is something I would love to see in my lifetime,” says Ross Buchanan.
