Cloughmoyle House on 8ac at Shinrone in Co Offaly is a unique rural property located within the walls of what was once a 17th century castle. Surrounded by a lovely stone courtyard, the house is for sale by private treaty with a guide price of €350,000.

Cloughmoyle castle was built by the Mac Guilfoyle family in the 1500s and suffered besieging at the hands of the Fitzgeralds, Earls of Kildare in 1533. The Mac Guilfoyles eventually raised the white flag 1562.

The present day house is set within the castle walls on an elevated site on the edge of Shinrone Village.

The two-storey house has been renovated in the last number of years and is in turn-key condition. The accommodation includes an entrance hall, a living room, sitting room, a fully fitted kitchen, a pantry, a cloakroom and a downstairs bedroom. Upstairs there are four bedrooms.

To the front the house is approached by stone steps leading to a small front courtyard with a formal garden. Double gates provide separate access into the back garden and a beautiful enclosed courtyard.

The outbuildings include a stone barn, which is a protected structure with great potential.

The 8ac to the rear of the house and yard are in a mixture of paddocks and woodland with separate road frontage.

Selling agent Julie Fogarty of Sherry FitzGerald Fogarty describes Cloughmoyle House as a much loved home that was well cared for.
