Wicklow farmer buys 240ac former airfield
A large 240ac coastal farm at Ardinairy, Brittas in Co Wicklow sold at auction last week for €1.65m surpassing its pre auction guide of €1.3m, writes Jim O'Brien.
Located 3km from Junction 19 at Jack White's Cross, off the M11 Motorway the farm is bisected by the R750 giving it extensive frontage on two sides.
Adjoining the European Golf Course the 240ac was put together by a developer with plans to build a hotel, golf resort and self-catering accommodation on the property. In a previous existence the farm hosted an airfield and the one-time hangar is now used for livestock housing and fodder storage.
The building is located on a 109ac section nearest the sea that also has extensive road frontage on to the R750.
The section is laid out in eight fields, with a portion that runs down to a seashore.
A larger 131ac portion is on the western side of the R750 and with similar frontage to the seaside portion was once under tillage but is now mainly in rough grazing.
While it contains some low lying ground the majority of the 131ac is elevated ground about 50m over sea level.
