A 23ac area that was under winter wheat was bid to €135,000 before it was withdrawn, but was sold afterwards to the businessman for substantially more, believed to have been near its €212,000 guide.

The 4.5ac that made up lot four sold at auction for €82,000 to a Dublin-based buyer. Denis Howell, of Warren Estates, who handled the sale, said the executors were very pleased with the result.

The land is close to Goreyand the seaside resort of Courtown, and within one mile of the M11 motorway between Dublin and Rosslare.

The land, which comes with approximately 700m of road frontage, is heavy in wintertime, but is said to be excellent grassland or suitable for winter cereals.
