Entitlements ruling slammed

Macra na Feirme has slammed the decision to put a limit of €5,000 for Single Farm Payment entitlements from the National Reserve.

Macra president Michael Gowing said the industry must put in place a mechanism to ensure sufficient reserves are available for new entrants.

"The current maximum limit places the new entrant at a competitive disadvantage," he said.

Applicants for payments from the National Reserve cannot have an off-farm income of over €30,000 and total income cannot exceed €40,000.

Applications close May 17.
