Durrow holding appeals to locals
Local bidders were out in force for the auction sale of a 25ac residential farm at Dunmore, Durrow, Co Laois on Thursday.
Described by auctioneer Joe Coogan as having land "as good as you'll find anywhere", the farm was offered for sale in two lots on the day.
Lot one, the 21ac non-residential parcel, was knocked down to a local farmer who paid €225,000 or €10,700/ac for it.
The second lot, the house on four acres, was withdrawn from the auction but later sold privately for well in excess of €400,000, according to the auctioneer.
The same agent is handling the upcoming sales of two more farms on July 8.
The first is a 60ac non-residential farm at Ballydavin, Cullahill, Co Laois, which has a guide price of €9,500/ac.
The second farm, a 61ac residential property at Ross Upper, Rathdowney, has a guide price of €6,000/ac.
