John Deere has unveiled its new 900 Series variable chamber baler design for large livestock farmers and contractors.
There are two models in the range, the 960 and 990, which can produce bales of 0.8-1.6m and 0.8-1.85m respectively.
With a 2.2m pick-up, the balers are available with either a non-chopper RotoFlow feeder rotor or chopper MaxiCut rotor, with either a 13 or 25-knife pre-cutter. The high capacity pick-up now features an extra row of pick-up tines -- five instead of the traditional four.
They are also equipped with a new drop-floor unplugging system under the rotor to facilitate the clearance of blockages quickly and easily.
A unique feature of the new series is the Fast Release System (FRS), which Deere says speeds up the bale ejection process using a unique 'curtain' design, which replaces the traditional tailgate.
Deere states that this design enables the operator to unload a bale in less than five seconds, which, the company claims, is up to 10 seconds faster than a conventional machine.
The fast ejection speed is helped by flexible bale chamber panel walls that ensure that the baler reaches maximum capacity, but also open slightly as the bale is ejected, to prevent any risk of the bale jamming in the chamber.
Deere's MaxD bale chamber design features an offset density arm that transmits tension to two wide endless belts, each 573mm wide. Three powered rollers inside the chamber also make starting the bale easier, especially in wet conditions, according to the firm.
On the new series of balers, the net wrapping system is now located at the front of the machine, which should make for easier monitoring of the net-tying process.
The balers are ISOBUS-certified, says Deere, and can be equipped with a GreenStar 1,800 display. This controls most of the key machine settings and functions, including bale density and size, soft core pressure and diameter, knife selection and operation of the drop-floor unplugging system.
Available as an option on the 900 series balers is Deere's Tractor Implement Automation (TIA) system which, when operated with a tractor with compatible ISOBUS system, CVT transmission and electronic spools, manages many of the baling process functions.
John Deere says that the new balers will be available in limited quantities this year, with full commercial production beginning in 2012.
