Deal yet to be closed on 39ac in Kilkenny

Negotiations are continuing for a 39ac Kilkenny farm after it was withdrawn from auction on Thursday.

Auctioneer Joe Coogan had set a pre-auction guide price of €5,500/ac, equating to around €214,500, for the property at Ballasalla, Johnswell, Co Kilkenny. The farm had limited road frontage and a derelict single-storey dwelling house. The accommodation includes an entrance porch, kitchen/living room, two bedrooms and a bathroom. Outside, the yard includes an old cow house, while the property comes with some small entitlements.

Bidding on the property opened at €150,000 on the day and three bidders emerged. The first was a Kilkenny solicitor acting on behalf of a client, who was subsequently outbid by a local builder and landowner.

However, both of these were outbid by a potential buyer from Ashford, Co Wicklow.

Auctioneer Joe Coogan withdrew the farm unsold at €200,000 but then received a further bid of €205,000. Negotiations for the farm continue.
