A CROWD of over 7,000 eager dairy farmers turned up for this year's open day at Teagasc's dairy research centre at Moorepark

Slick presentations gave farmers who had the appetite huge amounts of information on every aspect of their dairy enterprises -- from the type of grasses they should be growing on their farms to the cost implications for the dairy industry to switch from seasonal production to year-round production systems.

The key message was that the future is bright for the dairy sector and while many of those attending had "been there, done that", farmers admitted afterwards that the day acted as a valuable refresher course in refocusing minds on what the priorities should be for the coming 12 months.
