Lisavaird takeover of dairy spread specialist cleared

The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission has today cleared the proposed transaction whereby Lisavaird Food Group Limited, a subsidiary of Lisavaird Co-op would acquire sole control of JDS Foods Limited.

Lisavaird Food Group Limited is a wholly owned subsidiary of Lisavaird Co-operative Creamery Limited. It which carries on a variety of business in agricultural, retail, food production, food processing and is headquartered at County Cork, is an agricultural cooperative society.

Lisavaird Food Group comprises three companies. Glen Aine Foods is a cooked meat manufacturer based in Co. Limerick. Established in 1988, Coolmore Fresh Foods began in the family kitchen with our first cakes baked in an AGA oven. The business grew steadily over 10 years. Today they are one of the largest cake manufacturers in Ireland. Lastly, Glenmar Shellfish has been serving the Export fishing industry for now over thirty years.

It's new purchase, JDS Foods Limited, are involved in the  manufacture and sale of dairy and non-dairy spreads, margarines and cooking fats in the State and in the United Kingdom.

The proposed transaction was notified to the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission under the Competition Act 2002, as amended, on 4 July 2017.

The Commission has formed the view that the proposed transaction will not substantially lessen competition in any market for goods or services in the State.
