‘What better way to brighten up rural life?’ was the headline in my local newspaper back in November 1947 when Tydavnet became the first parish in Co Monaghan to be electrified.

75 years later the media headlines are anything but brightening up rural Ireland as we head into a potentially ‘dark’ winter. The challenge facing every household and every business is how to reduce our electricity use.
