Cow with the wow-factor is cream of show
One cow stood out above all others as the crème de la crème of dairy cows were pampered and preened in the Virginia Showgrounds.
As more than 10,000 people descended on the event in Co Cavan, it was Hilltara Lanthority Echo II - which judge Paul Miller said had an udder system "to die for" - that was tapped forward as this year's Diageo Baileys All Ireland Champion Cow.
The new champion was bred by Sam McCormick, from Bangor, Co Antrim.
With the contest offering a €10,000 prize fund, Mr Miller praised the standards exhibited by the 34 entrants.
"These were fantastic cows on show. They were absolutely immaculate. They all had a high functionality, balanced, good legs and confirmation and they were all high-volume milk producers. They were what everyone in the dairy world is looking for," he said. "This year's champion had absolutely everything. She caught my eye immediately."
Visitors watched on as the cows were treated as "show queens" for the day, with blow-drying, polishing and scrubbing in order as they tried to wow the judges.
