CSO launch comprehensive 2010 Census of Agriculture
TODAY sees the launch of the most comprehensive statistical analysis of Irish farming in a decade.
Over 120,000 farmers have been issued with questionnaires by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) for the 2010 Census of Agriculture, which aims to record all farming activity in Ireland.
The CSO says the detailed statistics on the structure of agricultural holdings in Ireland will benefit the development of agricultural policy here and at EU level.
An eight-page census document and accompanying explanatory leaflet should have been delivered by post to every farmstead in the country within the past 48 hours.
All holdings with more than 1ha of land have been included.
Holdings of less than 1ha are included if they are engaged in intensive production -- pigs or poultry, for example.
The questionnaire should be completed and returned to the CSO by next Tuesday, June 8.
There is a statutory obligation on farmers to complete and return this census form.
