Cavan farm snapped up at €180k

A two-storey traditional farmhouse with an old farmyard on 23ac of grazing land at Drumina, Virginia, Co Cavan, was sold at auction last week for €180,000 or €7,800/ac.

The house is in need of extensive renovation and comes with a traditional farmyard and a range of old outbuildings all on grazing ground in old pasture.

Agent James Matthews had two customers when bidding opened at €130,000.

When the price reached €170,000, one of the bidders, a local dairy farmer, enquired as to the reserve and, on finding it was €180,000, bought the place for the same amount.

Mr Matthews is also in negotiations for the private treaty sale of 25ac at Drumeel on the Dublin side of Virginia.

He currently has an offer of €173,000 or almost €7,000/ac on board.

Auctioneer Michael Claffey of Moate, Co Westmeath, is selling 20ac of land behind Main Street at Moate.

Zoned for development, the land is described as level ground, all under grass and suitable for any type of farming. It has its own access and runs along a railway line. Mr Claffey is guiding the private treaty sale at €13,000 to €14,000/ac.

A guide of €10,000/ac is being quoted by auctioneer James Lee for 56ac of grazing ground at Clonkeen Lisnagry. The property will be offered for auction at the offices of John Lee Real Estate Alliance, Newport, Co Tipperary, at 3pm on May 25.
