A price of €9,800/ac was paid for a roadside field located at Castlejordan, between Kinnegad and Edenderry, last week.
The 6.75ac property was described by auctioneer Aidan Heffernan, of Sherry FitzGerald Royal, as a nice, free-draining property with dual road frontage, giving the potential for a residence at either end.
The well-attended auction saw the property open at €50,000 and two bidders drove the price in increments of €5,000 initially and then in amounts of €2,000 and €1,000.
The hammer came down at €66,000, not far short of the guide of €70,000. The property was bought by a businessman from Rhode, Co Offaly.
At the same auction, Mr Heffernan also sold a three-bedroom house, in need of repair, in Edenderry, for €107,000.
This price was well in advance of the €80,000 guide.
