A top price of €1,680 was paid for a calved heifer at the Annual Dairy Show and Sale at Castleisland Co-Op Mart, Co Kerry.

The Friesian was exhibited by Tom Thompson, Headleys Bridge, Knocknagoshel, Co Kerry, and was judged Reserve Champion of the show.

Mart manager, Richard Harnett said "the fine selection of calved, springing and spring calving heifers on offer met a steady trade".

The award for Overall Show Champion went to a Friesian exhibited by Kieran Cahill, Ahane, Knocknagoshel, which sold for €1,560. The spring calvers made up to €1,500 for the best lots. Most demand was for strong heifers calving in January/February, with the lighter heifer more difficult to sell.
