Brown Swiss win on numbers
With a population of around seven million, the Brown Swiss breed is believed to be the second most numerous dairy breed in the world.
Known for its longevity, mainly due to having very correct feet and legs, the breed also attracts attention for its excellent yields, protein levels of close to 4pc and superb temperament. The recently set up Irish Brown Swiss Society of Ireland is actively recruiting new members.
IHFA, in conjunction with the ICBF database, has agreed to issue pedigree certificates on behalf of the Irish Brown Swiss Society.
Registration information and application forms can be obtained from the IHFA office in Clonakilty on 023 8833443 or from the Brown Swiss Cattle Society secretary on 086 8340976.
