Birr bracing itself for a lot of interest

Jim O’Brien

A 51ac residential farm located at Clareen, Co Offaly, between Roscrea and Birr, should attract a lot of interest in the community around the foothills of the Slieve Bloom Mountains. For sale by public auction, the sale of the property is being guided at €400,000.

Located two miles from Clareen village, seven miles from Birr and eight miles from Roscrea, the farm is surrounded by good farmland in strong farming country. According to Roscrea auctioneer, Seamus Browne, the farm is centred around a three bedroom bungalow built in the 1970s but fully refurbished in 2008. The traditional farmyard is comprised of a three-span hayshed and a lean-to along with a range of storage sheds.

The lands are all in one block, in permanent pasture and well fenced. The ground is described as free draining, quality fattening land suited to dry-stock or dairy.

It will be interesting to see how this property fares in the auction room as it sells in its entirety only.

In many of these auctions the price of the house is forgotten in the overall sale but in this sale the house is too well presented to be forgotten.

The auction will be held at the County Arms, Birr, at 3pm this Wednesday, October 10.
