A huge congregation descended on Sixmilebridge, Co Clare last week to offer a final farewell to "esteemed and loyal" mart chairman, Pat O'Reilly.

The beloved husband of Mary, loving father of Thomás and Aiden and son of the late Bernie will be greatly missed by his wider family and the community of his native Sixmilebridge.

Pat (51), passed away on Saturday April 22 following a short illness and will also be deeply missed at the local mart where he has served as chairman since 2011.

His board colleagues have praised Pat's commitment, vision and passion in driving the reopening of Sixmilebridge Mart which temporarily closed its doors in 2009.

Eddie Punch, board member said: "Pat was the man to the fore saying something had to be done. He was a very solid individual and he did an outstanding job as chairman of the board.

"He was a hard working family man, a top farmer, well-known, well-respected and very popular throughout the entire community.

"Fr Harry Bohan captured him beautifully at the ceremony when he said 'Pat was loyal and one of the finest men I've ever met".
