Beef prices are on the brink of dipping below the benchmark €4/kg as prices slipped by another 10-15c/kg this week.

Heifer base quotes are at 410c/kg, while steers are now teetering on €4/kg.

Beef farmers were also angered by the unilateral move by all plants to the so-called 'two-tier' pricing system that has seen prices for non-quality assured stock slip by up to 30c/kg behind the base quotes for in-spec cattle.

However, the mart trade has remained steady.
