Appeals backlog dates back to '07
Fianna FAil agriculture spokesman, Eamon O Cuiv, has called for a speeding up of the appeals process for the creation of new Special Areas of Conservation (SAC), Special Protection Areas (SPA) and Natural Heritage Areas (NHA).
Deputy O Cuiv said that the Government has confirmed a large number of appeals dating back to 2007 that have not yet been finalised.
"This is very unfair to landowners who are left in limbo due to the inability of the Department to deal with these appeals," he said.
"I call on the Minister to ensure that all outstanding appeals in relation to designations are finalised in the calendar year."
