A massive project by the Irish Film Institute has brought hundreds of TV ads from decades ago back to life, including some great agri ads.

Five Star Supermarkets brought a heifer into the store after a 'team of experts' picked out the best cattle in the field for its supermarkets. "All the meat you buy at Five Star Supermarkets has the Five Star stamp of quality" viewers were told in this ad.

Dairy farmers were advised by one farmer to use Thrive calf replacer instead of cows milk to ensure the best quality calves. Seamus Kelly of Moneymore Friesian Herd tells us that he raises all his pedigree calves on Thrive milk replacer. He says farmers need all the profit they can get.

An Avonmore milk AD has great interviews with Irish people on why they buy it - it's creamier and tastes nicer they say!

Easu Singles were a new found invention from Golden Vale as this great AD shows when someone came up with the novel ideal of wrapping cheese in separate single wrappers for the 'Freshness sealed in every slice' AD, while Ballyfree Eggs is a complete throwback to yesteryear.

The full collection of ads is available to view at and includes ads from the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s that have been restored and digitised.
