Business has been brisk in the auction rooms in recent weeks with farms big and small selling under the hammer or soon afterwards.

However, it hasn't all been plain sailing. One of the bigger holdings with impressive facilities at Knockadreet, Roundwood in Co Wicklow failed to sell at auction and is now on the private treaty market with a guide of €1.1m.

The holding comes with some top class shedding and includes a single storey farmhouse in need of complete refurbishment.

The land is divided into 18 fields with the Vartry River flowing through it dividing the farm into two lots.

A 72ac portion includes the house and yard located in the townsland of Knockadreet and is guided at €750,000.

A 42ac section with a cattle crush and cattle handling facilities in the townsland of Tomriland and guided at €350,000.

The land is all grazing ground and, according to auctioneer David Quinn, the holding was home to a sheep and beef operation producing award winning cattle in local and national shows.

There is a wide range of facilities in the yard including a superb slatted shed built in 2009 measuring 98ft x 75ft.
