Mart managers and employees now have an opportunity to learn new sales techniques, slick marketing campaigns and enhanced customer care, through a range of courses offered by ICOS Skillnet.

With grant aid approved for 2012, the range of ICOS Skillnet courses available this year includes those aimed at improving selling skills and customer service, financial training, health and safety awareness training, and IT.

With increased competition between marts in the current economic climate, and farmers more willing to travel to find a mart they prefer to do business in, the course on effective selling aims to help mart managers make their mart the most appealing place to buy or sell animals.

On the one-day course, participants can learn how to assess customers' needs and wants, sell persuasively, deal with difficult customers, improve communication and make sales through a range of modern media.

Another Skillnet course on customer care focuses on developing customer loyalty. This one-day course focuses on communication skills, including learning about body language, developing perception skills, professional telephone manner and using your voice effectively and skilfully, particularly in stressful situations.

The course includes a module on handling complaints and difficult situations.

In this, participants learn how to handle complaints and difficult calls, as well as how to maintain professional objectivity in dealing with difficult personalities.

Managers can also learn how to deal with slow-paying debtors, while maintaining good customer relations.
