A drystock farm at Coolalaw, Clonmore, Co Carlow, extending to 146ac sold at auction last week for €910,000.
Located eight miles from Tullow, the farm consisted of about 100ac that are described as 'in good heart' with the remaining 46ac needing work. In terms of access, one field enjoys excellent road frontage while the rest is set back from the road. Auctioneer Tony Jackson said he hadn't realised the extent of the appetite among farmers for smaller parcels of ground.
He said: "I got numerous calls from prospective customers asking me if this particular farm would be sold in smaller lots, people with an interest in buying 30ac to 50ac.
"My instructions were to sell it as an entire, but if a group of farmers wanted to buy it as such and divide it afterwards, they could have done so."
