€50-60 over the €1/kg paid as mart trade remains buoyant

Most marts reported an improved trade over the past week, with lambs generally making from €50-60 over the €1/kg. Store prices ran from €65 to €90/hd.

The best of the ewe hoggets made up to €150, with good cull ewes were making from €90-110. Ewes with lambs at foot sold for €150-240/unit.

Lamb prices were up by €2-4/hd for the 1,500 on offer at Enniscorthy Mart, with the fleshed lots selling for €55-61 over their weight.

Store prices ran from €75 to €86 each. Ewe lambs made from €90-110. Ewe hoggets with a lamb at foot sold for €182-200/unit.

Ewes with twin lambs made from €210 to €235. Heavy cull ewes were making €88-110, with the lighter types selling for €60-85. Heavy rams made up to €130.


Dowra Mart had 1,100 sheep on offer last Saturday. Trade was up from the previous week for most classes on offer.

Lambs made from €85 to €105. A big entry of store lambs sold from €65 to €85 each.

Hogget ewes made €100-135 each, while young ewes with lambs at foot made €150-240. The older ewes with lambs were making €100-180.

Bigger numbers and an improved trade for ewes and store lambs was the story from Baltinglass Mart. The 40-50kg lambs made €97-104/hd.

Lambs weighing 40-45kg traded for €85-95, while stores made from €75 to €95. The best of the ewe lambs hit a high of €110.

Prices for cull ewes ranged from €60 to €85 and from €130 to €150 for the ewe hoggets. Ewes with lambs at foot sold to €170/unit.

Numbers of lambs on offer at Mountbellew Mart were also up on recent weeks.

Factory lambs were a slightly easier trade and selling for €50-55 over the weight.

Strong demand for ewe lambs and store lambs saw prices top out for both categories at €107 and €94, respectively.

Cull ewe prices were a tad tougher in a range of €74-107. Ewe hoggets made €120-144. Ewes with a single lamb at foot made from €140 to €165.
