€5.5m fund to restore raised Irish bogs

Some of Ireland's most important raised bogs are to be restored in a €5.5m programme - with €4m from the EU's LIFE fund.

Bogs will receive funding in counties Offaly, Roscommon, Galway, Cavan, Meath, Westmeath, and Longford.

The funds will be available for construction works such as raising water levels and restoring the natural condition of the endangered habitat. It will run from 2016 to 2020.
