44ac field on the edge of 'The Well'
This Thursday a parcel 44ac of prime land at Patrickswell, Co Limerick comes to auction with a guide of €10,000/ac.
Originally part of the local Attyflin Estate that was owned by the Houston family, the land runs down to the village and fronts on to the N20.
In my youth I was part of a silage crew that relieved this ground of a few generous crops of silage. Those were the days when your standard tractor had four wheels and an engine; and when cabs, brakes and lights were an absolute luxury.
This parcel was bought during the boom and zoned for develop-ment that included a retirement village and nursing home.
The 44ac is described by Tom Crosse of GVM as top class grazing land which is all in one field divided and dotted with lovely old trees. It is serviced by piped water and enjoys extensive road frontage. While the days of bountiful development land might be over, land like this, within minutes of Limerick surely has 'hope value' as well as agricultural value.
