¤43k tractor competition winner to be revealed at Ploughing

The lucky winner of the CaseIH JX90 tractor worth €43,000 will be announced at the Farming Independent stand at the National Ploughing Championships in Athy, Co Kildare, next week.

Almost 20,000 entries have been received for the tractor and the winner will be presented with the keys at the stand at 3pm on Thursday, September 22.

The Farming Independent stand will be located at Stand 202, Row G, Block 3, where the Case tractor will be on display. The Farming Independent will be joined, as usual, by Met Eireann.

The Ploughing Championships offer the perfect opportunity for readers to discuss matters with our reporters and columnists.

All of the Farming Independent staff will be on hand during the three days of the event and they will be joined at different stages by writers from various department's from the Irish Independent daily newspaper.


Editor Declan O'Brien will man the stand on Tuesday. He will be joined from 11am to 2pm by machinery writer Bruce Lett and columnist John Shirley.

Irish Independent fashion editor Bairbre Power also makes a guest appearance on Tuesday morning, while rugby writer Tony Ward will answer visitors queries on our prospects in the World Cup.

On Wednesday, deputy farming editor Darragh McCullough, news reporter and equestrian correspondent Caitriona Murphy and livestock correspondent Joe Healy will take to the stand.

Machinery expert Bruce Lett and Irish Independent political editor Fionnan Sheahan will be available from 11am to 2pm. On the Thursday, Declan O'Brien, Darragh McCullough and Joe Healy will be joined by Brendan Keenan, economics editor with the Irish Independent.
