It's not very often that you get the chance to buy your own island, but a property which has just come on the market in West Cork provides such an opportunity.
The 38ac holding at Lackahane, near the beautiful port of Baltimore, has extensive frontage onto Roaring Water Bay.
The property also boasts a 10ac island, which can be accessed at low water, as well as full planning permission for a 2,000sqft detached residence.
Local auctioneer John Hodnett, of Hodnett Forde Property Services in Clonakilty, said the planning permission would be a major selling point for the property, given the difficulty in getting planning in coastal sites.
Mr Hodnett said the holding included approximately 20ac of pasture land, and 18ac of rough grazing, including the island. The property is around one mile from Baltimore village, just off the road to Skibbereen.
Although it has just come on the market, Mr Hodnett said there has been good interest in the property. He said most of the inquiries to date were from West Cork and were non-farmer.
The holding is for sale by private treaty and a guide price in the region of €350,000 to €400,000 is being quoted.
