20,000 expected at Pumpkin festival
Up to 20,000 visitors are expected to attend this year's Pumpkin festival which kicks off in Virginia on Thursday evening.
The festival, now in its ninth year, is a Mecca for the pumpkin growing fraternity who will exhibit their fruits for the duration of the five day festival. These pumpkins can weigh anything between 500 and 700 kilos and the winner will be declared after an official 'weigh-in' next Sunday.
Apart from the pumpkin competitions the festival will feature a 'haunted walk' through the forest at the Park Hotel, a massive fireworks display at Lough Ramor and a Brazilian carnival parade through the town this weekend.
