190 lost in accidents since 2003
Farming remains the most dangerous occupation in which to work. Accidents have claimed the lives of 190 people in the decade between 2003 and 2013 to date.
Accidents involving vehicles and machinery accounted for the majority (49pc) of fatalities on Irish farms between 2000 and 2010. According to the Health and Safety Authority, accidents involving vehicles were responsible for 28pc of deaths, while other machinery accidents accounted for 21pc of fatal accidents.
Thirteen percent of thosekilled in farm accidents are either struck by a trailer or farm machinery.
