Close to €18,000/ac was paid at auction for land located at Castledermot, Co Carlow, last week. Jordan Auctioneers brought three parcels of land to auction amounting to 20ac, with two of the three selling under the hammer

The first lot offered for sale was 14ac at Prumpelstown Upper, which opened with an initial offer of €120,000 and, with several active bidders showing interest, it sold for €240,000 to an estate agent from Carlow acting in trust for a client. The price achieved equated to almost €17,000/ac.

The second lot offered for sale was a 5.7ac piece of ground at Halfmiletown. This opened with an initial offer of €50,000, before being sold under the hammer for €105,000. The price of €18,000/ac was only topped at an auction held in Monaghan earlier in the year.

The final lot offered was 16ac at Halfmiletown, located across the road from the 5.7ac lot. There was an opening bid of €130,000 for this lot. Offers increased in €10,000 increments to €180,000, at which point the holding was withdrawn. It is understood that negotiations with the highest bidder are on-going.
